Five-Time Canadian Lottery Winner Sparks Investigation

You’ve probably imagined how it would feel to win the lottery; in fact, if you’re an avid player or UK syndicate member, you may well have already won a prize. But it’s not too common to find someone who dreams about winning the lottery five times. After all, while lightning and luck may strike twice, it’s in many ways bizarre to consider the fact that a man from Canada has recently claimed his fifth lottery win. While for most people, this would be the cause for a great deal of celebration, the Canadian man is facing a state-run investigation after the lottery board decided the case was simply too complex for them to handle alone.

The issue isn’t with the validity of the ticket, which might seem suspect after a fifth windfall –this time totaling $17 million. Rather, the case has been brought by the winner’s brother, a member of a group which claims that the ticket belongs to them. The winner notes, however, that the group uses stamps on the backs of their tickets as insignia, whereas his ticket is free from such markings. The dispute may wear on for quite some time, but as the drama unfolds, the allure of five lottery wins is sure to help encourage lottery players around the world –including the UK’s own– to dream a little bigger. Hopefully, however, if you find yourself with such a large stack of winning tickets, you won’t end up pleading your case at the courthouse.
